Cory Wong : The Grid Generation ft. Louis Cole

Cory Wong, a member of the highly regarded funk-jam band Vulfpeck, has been consistently thriving in his career. In recent years, he has achieved numerous milestones such as selling out shows worldwide.

He has also been featured on the covers of various magazines and collaborated with esteemed musicians including Jon Batiste, Tom Misch, Victor Wooten, and the Metropole Orchestra, among others. Additionally, Corey has released his own signature products, including a Signature Fender Strat, and as a prominent music educator he has launched an innovative platform called 4th Position Academy.

Here he teams up with another super special musician Louis Cole. Simply put it’s a match made in heaven. A thunderous and thematic motif sets the tone before Wong lets rip with his signature sound, that is groove ridden yet metronomic and morse code like. Never mind “One Note Samba” when you can have a one note funk explosion. He also offers up a tasteful guitar solo too.

His guest Louis Cole is the perfect foil, his drumming brilliance sets him apart and the vamp near the end is heart racing. I witnessed him at Glastonbury recently and I’m still in recovery. Watch out for Wong’s new album which drops in August if it’s anything like this it’s going to be a seminal offering.
